Guide To Energy Saving in the Basement
July 17, 2017 Greener Living

We’ve been sharing lots of energy saving tips for your household. Today we’re looking at the basement. Find out how you can save.

Hang Your Clothes

Your dryer can use a lot of energy, especially during peak hours of the day. Rather than using your dryer, set up a rack to air dry your clothes. It’s a much more energy efficient option.

Service Your Furnace

Like your car, it’s important to service your furnace on a regular basis. This will ensure it’s running smoothly and efficiently.

Freeze Efficiently

If you keep a separate freezer in your basement (or anywhere else), you’ll want to make sure it’s not using too much energy. According to saveonenergy.ca your freezer should be set to -18 degrees Celsius. “A freezer that is set to 5-6 degrees colder can use up to 25% more energy”.

Wash in Cold

The cold water cycle on your washing machine uses less energy than a warmer setting. It’s a great way to conserve energy.

Keep It Clean

We’ve talked about maintenance on machines, such as your furnace, to keep them running efficiently. But don’t forget about smaller devices such as your dryer. Give your dryer some attention. Keep the lint filter clean and vacuum the exhaust once in a while.
