Valentine’s Day is coming up, and it’s a popular time of the year to ask that one big question. We know the importance of location, even for a proposal. To help you out, we’ve put together the top places to propose in Guelph to ensure you have a romantic moment you’ll never forget.
Top Places to Propose in Guelph
Right on Speed River, Riverside Park is a great spot any time of the year. Snowy winter evenings create a beautiful backdrop, fall days are full of bright leaves and crisp air, and summertime at Riverside Park is full of flowers and flowing water. Whether you’re anxiously awaiting February 14, or starting to think about great locations, you can’t go wrong with Riverside Park.
Eramosa River Trail Covered Bridge
Covered bridges ooze romance. They’re dramatic and unique. This particular one stretches over the Eramosa River, giving it a natural backdrop in the middle of Guelph. What makes this bridge particularly unique is that it is one of only two lattice covered bridges in Ontario. So when you’re planning a romantic walk, or that perfect proposal, think about stopping by the covered bridge.
Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate
The Church itself is a grand structure dating back to the 1880s, and its honourary designation comes from the Pope himself. The dramatic steps leading up to the entryway arc is a great spot for a proposal any time of the year…and even the engagement photos to follow.
University of Guelph Alumni will have a special sentimental attachment to this spot. Old Jeremiah is an antique naval cannon located in the heart of the University of Guelph campus. Painting the cannon before sunrise has become a campus tradition. It’s unique place for a proposal, but the perfect spot for two people who met on that very campus. In the Summer, it’s full of activity and sunny skies, and in the Winter its home to the City Hall ice rink. Guelph’s Market Square has potential for a great proposal story. Imagine getting down on one knee in front of the historical Old City Hall, or skating under the starry sky. Regardless of the season, you can have a romantic moment in Downtown Guelph.
The Guelph Lake Conservation Area is perfect for a Summer proposal. If you’re a couple who loves to camp, why not make a weekend of it. Set out for fresh air, swimming, hiking, and a moment you’ll remember for the rest of your lives. Spend the evening watching the sun go down and celebrate by toasting with some roasted marshmallows.
A proposal should reflect who you are as a couple. If you are runners, hikers, walkers, or just love the outdoors, there are hundreds of possibilities for a romantic proposal on any of the trails in Guelph.
A Walk Down Memory Lane
Okay, so there isn’t actually a street named Memory Lane in Guelph, but imagine heading back to the scene of your first date, or where you first met. There’s nothing quite as romantic as nostalgia. Take a stroll through the park where you first met, or maybe you had your first date at a restaurant in Downtown Guelph.
