Established in 1839, Elora Ontario was named by Scott, Capt. Gilkinson after the Ellora Caves in India. The towering 80-foot limestone Gorge runs through the heart of the village, descending into the Irvine and Grand Rivers that inspired the name. The village core is still rich with history, it’s 18th-century architecture sets a picturesque scene for tourists and residents alike. Elora has been named “Ontario’s Most Beautiful Village” for several consecutive years.
